Abstract

Leadership development is defined as “expanding the collective capacity of organizational members to engage effectively in leadership roles and processes” (Day 2000, p. 582). Leadership development, while conceptually intuitive, requires complex interactions between mentors, peers, and those who are led within a social network that may extend beyond the organization. Given today’s competitive and interconnected environment, organizations of all sizes and across all sectors should be concerned with developing effective leaders. Effective leaders engender innovation, respond and adapt to market changes, are creative at solving problems, and maintain a high level of performance (Amagoh 2009).
