Abstract

This chapter will examine the experiences of discrimination on LGBTQ+ people, particularly LGBTQ+ Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC). We will describe the negative impact of discrimination on mental health and physical health, while also highlighting the ways that LGBTQ+ people have demonstrated resilience and other coping skills to effectively navigate systems of oppression. Finally, a case study will highlight the many ways that LGBTQ+ may experience discrimination, as well as the ways that psychologists and others may assist them.
