Abstract

Symposium presented at the annual conference of the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers.
Research supports the idea that motivation is an individually determined construct; however, teachers can influence the development of motivation in their classrooms. This symposium discusses the ways that educators can understand, assess, and create contexts that support engagement and persistence.
