Abstract

Static and dynamic mechanical property characterization of silica nano-particles infused epoxy composite is performed. Tests are conducted on both neat epoxy, and epoxy with different wt% of silica nano-particles. Ultrasound technique is used to infuse nano-particles in epoxy. Static and dynamic properties of the composites are investigated by three point flexural and low velocity impact tests respectively. Dynatup machine is used to perform the low velocity impact tests. Both static and dynamic properties of neat epoxy are improved by the infusion of nano-particles. The dispersion quality of nano-particles and failure mode of test coupons are assessed by Scanning Electron Microscopy.
