Metaphor: The Language of the Imagination

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

This paper is an inquiry into ways of seeing; knowing and learning that are frequently excluded in this present climate of standardized practices in the field of education. In the following pages, I explore ways that metaphor formation creates the means to express the domain of imagination by connecting perception and expression through a wide range of discourses. This is accomplished by tracing the evolution of the concept of metaphor-how it makes possible the creation of personal meaning and agency through the combination of schema with newly discovered phenomena in an environment of “incubation” and reflection.
