Abstract

Conducted a field study to investigate the moderating influence of negative affectivity (NA) on the inequity-intentions to turnover relationship in the workplace. It was hypothesized that individuals who were not negatively predisposed would report stronger intentions to turnover when faced with inequity than those who were. Data were collected from 102 managers (aged 30–49 yrs) of a large conglomerate. NA moderated the relationship between perceptions of inequality and intentions to turnover. Both high and low NAs reported increased turnover intentions when faced with inequity. However, the relationship was much stronger those who were not negatively predisposed, thus supporting the hypothesis.
