Abstract

Numerical studies of a buoy system are performed using both large eddy simulation (LES) and scale adaptive simulation (SAS). The studies concern the effect of wave amplitude and frequency on the buoy’s motion. The studies reveal that the SAS is a promising tool for obtaining the unsteady wall-pressure fields and aerodynamic coefficients. SAS with a lower computational cost than LES capture very well the flow physics and aerodynamic coefficients associated with highly separated flows.
