Objective Word Recognition Score Assessment: A Future Possibility?

Research output: Contribution to journalShort surveypeer-review

Abstract

Future technological trends may improve diagnostic and interventional service delivery in audiology. An example of such future trends is the possibility of establishing word recognition scores (WRS) objectively. There is a strong correlation between WRS and latencies of wave II of the auditory brainstem responses. WRS are considered an important part of the audiological test battery. However, it is difficult to obtain reliable WRS in some populations including infants, children with a severe degree of comorbid deficits such as autism spectrum disorders or attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, and older adults with cognitive deficits. But thanks to current technological innovations, it may be possible to establish objective WRS in the near future.
