Abstract

Some argue that life in post-compulsory higher education has never been harder than it is today. This chapter addresses some of the major challenges those concerned with teaching, learning and assessment face in our daily working lives and asserts the importance of productive reflection and the accumulation of evidence of your effectiveness to support your career development. We propose strategies for fostering inclusivity and cross-cultural practice. We further explore how you can gain internationally recognised accreditation for your higher education including those run by the Staff and Educational Development Association and Advance HE, and how you can apply for one of the numerous disciplinary and national teaching award schemes. In conclusion, we address the ways in which emergent and established technologies including generative artificial intelligence are impacting how and what students learn, and how we can make the most of these opportunities as well as some thoughts on designing out plagiarism.
