Abstract

A four-level non-electromagnetically induced transparency (NEIT), capable of producing a similar group-velocity reduction as that of four-level EIT scheme was reported. It was shown that with properly chosen parameters the scheme could further reduce the inherent probe field attenuation that existed in an ideal three-level EIT case. Significant reduction of the group velocity, probe field loss, and pulse distortion was reported. Rich dynamics including features such as pulse narrowing was also shown.
