Abstract
Healthy Campus 2020 (HC2020) advocates the Action Model for an ecological approach addressing determinants of health to improve student health and promote wellness, including the promotion of individual-level interventions. This presentation will explore an educational intervention activity conducted by MPH students within a CEPH-accredited MPH program at a public university to promote individual-level knowledge and practices among college student peers. The student-driven activity fulfilled a major requirement for a required course within the MPH curriculum, PUBH 6200 Methods of Health Promotion. The activity engagement supported programmatic competencies including leadership, social and behavioral sciences, communication, diversity and culture, professionalism, and program planning. The graduate students utilized selected HC2020 topics as the framework to plan and implement a campus health fair targeting student peers. Outcomes assessment included process feedback from the graduate students, as well as knowledge acquisition feedback from health fair attendees. The activity enabled the graduate students to gain practical in-the-field experience via active hands-on engagement in a richly rewarding teaching and learning experience, supporting their academic and professional goal of public health promotion by educating their campus peers on health and wellness.
