Abstract
The purpose of this study is to verify a hypothetical learning progression for quantitative reasoning that was developed through a prior qualitative study and intensive review of the literature. The study extends the interviews of the first study, creating closed-form assessments that can be analyzed quantitatively to revise the learning progression. A stratified random sample will subsequently be selected to participate in in-depth interviews on quantitative reasoning. The participants are 6th to 12th grade science and mathematics students in three states. Results and conclusions from the study to be completed in Summer 2013 will inform revision of the learning progression.
