Relative Newness, Top Management Teams and New Venture Performance: Contingencies in New Ventures

Abstract

New ventures exist on a continuum from imitation to initiation. This degree of relative newness affects each venture's management team and performance. We sampled 214 ventures, and found that relative newness was related to TMT composition and that congruence between TMT composition and relative newness was related to venture performance.
