Abstract

A (2+1) resonance ionization scheme was used to ionize H2. A fixed VUV photon (118 nm) and tunable visible light excited ground state hydrogen (E, F 1Σg+←←X 1Σg+) and a residual UV photon (355 nm) ionized the molecule. From the ion signals and the laser pulse energies, the two-photon rate constants were calculated. Tunneling of a vibrational level in the outer well of the E, F 1Σg+ potential into the inner well was observed.
