Abstract
A rotordynamic model is developed based on finite element method (FEM) for an electric submersible pump (ESP) typically used in an oil well. The procedure is illustrated using the parameters of an ESP in operation. The model is used to study the existing configuration of the pump and to validate its dynamic behavior under the current operating conditions. The effect of different design parameters on the system performance is investigated. The study helps in identifying the operation envelope of the ESP.
