Abstract
This chapter presents a method for deriving a family of Trefftz-type plate bending elements with thickness change and/or warping. Many plate-bending elements have been developed so far. Among those elements are the popular plate elements of Auricchio and Taylor, Bathe and Dvorkin, and Hughes and Tezduyar. In this chapter, one class of plate elements is discussed for which functions are used that satisfy the governing differential equations a priori. The elements that are considered include Trefftz-type finite elements. With the complex function representations, a systematic derivation of the assumed (Trefftz) stresses and strains for a mixed variational formulation is possible.
