Abstract
The author considers the construction of special finite elements with formulations which not only exactly satisfy the problem-characterizing system of differential equations but also the boundary conditions on a part of the element boundary. The purpose of this method is to aid in analyzing the local nature of the solution for critical subregions of the solution region and to incorporate it into the numerical calculation. In addition to the special problem-oriented elements, standard elements are provided in the noncritical subregions, so that, in addition to the construction of appropriate estimation functions, the problem of suitable possibilities for coupling various elements is a main point in the treatment of the problem. The method of constructing special elements is considered specifically with regard to linear problems of plates with holes, corners and cracks.
