Story as Connection

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

Richard tells a story and then shares how he challenges students to find themselves in both roles of the story; exploring how it feels to be the one giving help, and the one in need of help. Using this story, he trains counselors to not only illustrate concepts, but to facilitate perspective-taking and to foster empathy so that meaningful relationships can be made. Because that’s what true connections are: relationship.

A traveler and educator whose work and experiences within diverse populations have driven his efforts to connect people to stories and then to each other.
