Abstract

This study underscores the assertion that while there have been great strides made in educational equality for women and GLBQT youth, sexism still is deeply in place and presents itself in a variety of ways, including sexual harassment, homophobic bullying, and assault. (Hill, 2011). Recent national attention has illuminated cases of the sexual assault of athletes as well as by athletes and these cases justify the need to examine the existence of sexual harassment within the culture of student athletics. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of student athletes regarding harassment and knowledge of and/or experience(s) with harassment in high school and university settings, primarily in athletic school culture.
