Abstract

The blade-vortex interaction (BVI) phenomenon is one of the main concerns in rotorcraft aerodynamics and it is of critical importance to predict the coupled effect between aerodynamic loads and elastic forces associated with BVI. The present research proposes a novel CFD based, strong (two-way) coupling algorithm using large-eddy simulation (LES) for the numerical prediction of the aeroelastic response of the airfoil to BVI. the aeroelastic response of a symmetric NACA0012 airfoil to BVI phenomenon is computed using a two-degree of freedom (2DOF) mass/spring model.
