Abstract

Infrequent weeding can lead to overcrowded book shelves, outdated materials for users, and obsolete items. Once this occurs, weeding becomes inevitable, and the project can seem insurmountable. Georgia Southern University Libraries embarked on such a project weeding books from the Savannah campus, and relocating them to the Statesboro campus, by utilizing the storage afforded by the Automated Retrieval Collection (ARC) system. This presentation discusses selection criteria, logistics, Alma workflows, the coordination of key players across multiple departments, and why good communication is necessary.
