Abstract
In this fast growth of advanced information and global competition era, the statistics profession is at a critically important point in its history for strategic decision-making.
In the decades up to the 1970s, the statistics profession primarily focused on the development of the statistical theory to solve fundamental problems encountered in R&D, manufacturing and other optimization processes. However, in order to meet current societal needs, the statistics profession needs to adjust practices and perform more like engineering with critical statistical thinking and focus on how to best utilize known scientific and statistical principles for the greater benefit of organizations and the general public. In addition, the evidence-based practice of statistics to integrate the best research evidence with statistical expertise and value to our clients should also be at the frontier of consideration.
