Trying Something New, Redux: Revisiting the Use Adjusted Score to Evaluate a New Collection

Abstract

In 2021, librarians from the Georgia Southern University Libraries completed an Educational Resources Assessment to evaluate the use value of our electronic journal packages, and to determine which–if any–packages could be cancelled to reduce expenditures without negatively affecting faculty research and student learning. To facilitate evaluation of the individual journal titles that composed each journal package, librarians developed the Use Adjusted Score metric that incorporates both qualitative and quantitative data.

In 2025, librarians began a follow-up project to assess Georgia Southern’s ASTM Building Codes Standards package. While the scale of this project was much smaller than that of the 2021 assessment, the procedures and tools developed during the original assessment project were utilized to verify their effectiveness in helping librarians to make decisions about subscription renewals on an ongoing basis.
