Value chain exposure tour: building student appreciation for critical linkages in the creation of value

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

In recent literature, much has been made of the importance of value chain linkages. Businesses are giving a great deal of attention to their customer - supplier relationships in attempting to eliminate waste, improve quality, and provide superior values for their customers. The importance of improving value chain linkages has been particularly highlighted in the quality literature and is a key element of the Just-in-Time (JIT) and Total Quality Management (TQM) philosophies. The 'Value Chain Exposure Tour' described in this paper meets the challenge that is presented by the need for students to learn how 'Quality Hits the Road'.
